La grammatica di Festo e Gellio: la questione del genere incerto

The paper focuses on Gellius’ and Festus’ treatment of the nouns with uncertain gender. The first part of the paper provides a survey of the grammatical topics dealt with by the two Roman scholars. In the second part all passages concerning nominal gender in the Noctes Atticae and De verborum significatione are systematically analysed in order to identify the sources and morphological and lexicographic criteria applied by Gellius and Festus to such grammatical issue and to contrast them with those of later grammarians and lexicographers.
