Identità europea e pratiche di cittadinanza

The article deals with the citizens’ side of European identity. Although the EU has established a set of European values with a constitutional rank and put them at the basis of an internal and external policy, a gap between these values and the citizens’ point of view on the meaning of the EU emerges. Though this point of view is usually overlooked as interest- and material concerns-based, it cannot be ignored. While the scientific community is focused mainly on the relation between European and national identities, the social construction of community identity should be considered as a matter that involves not only “feeling” but also “doing” European citizen.
