Odeporic literature has always provided some of the most significant examples of èkphrasis. Within the cultural framework of the Grand Tour, travel chronicles accompanied by illustrations on plates were introduced, such as those published by Jean Claude Richard, Abbot of Saint-Non, and Jean-Pierre Louis Laurent Houël. These were ambitious and original publishing projects that proposed innovative ways of using drawings. The purpose of this paper is to study the graphic works related to odeporic literature and to suggest a process of cataloguing and georeferencing them aimed to an agile consultation, through the use of suitably designed databases and the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The archiving of the graphic works, beyond the paintings, required the subdivision of several plates – the result of layout of various drawings – into minimal units. The single entries were then filed in a database using the regulations and terminological instruments of the Central Institute for Catalogue and Documentation (Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione - ICCD) of Italy as a reference. Georeferencing of the basic parcels was not set on the reconstruction of the corresponding viewpoints, susceptible to arbitrariness, but rather on the identification of scenes and surfaces belonging to the architectural and landscape subjects represented in the graphic works. So, the Greek Theatre and the Cathedral of Syracuse are presented as case studies.

Abstract
So, the Greek Theatre and the Cathedral of Syracuse are presented as case studies.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
