Abstract
The challenge of climate change in historic and heritage cities. Strategic guidelines for the adaptation of heritage cities. European cities present a wide variety of contexts of historical and artistic value and this contribution attempts to overcome the limits of a documentary, historiographic and testimonial reading of cultural heritage, in favour of a structural and proactive vision of adaptation to investigate which solutions are truly applicable to historic fabrics to achieve their adaptability to climate change taking into account their complexity. Based on the analysis of the 15 Spanish cities whose historic centres are registered in the UNESCO WHL, a comparative/evaluative matrix was created aimed at recognising "categories of heritage cities" to define adaptive solutions consistent with the historic fabric. The result of applying the matrix to Spanish cities highlighted 5 historical categories of heritage cities in line with the historical-cultural value recognized in them, which underlies the population-environmental structures, socioeconomic dynamics and homogeneous urban planning. The qualitative analysis of the results made it possible to provide strategic guidelines related to each urban-historical category for the selection of actions on urban spaces for their climate adaptation, through a site-specifI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
