EL CAMPAMIENTO MESOLÍTICO DE PBM (SARIÑENA, HUESCA): DATOS PRELIMINARES SOBRE UNA CABAÑA DE CAZADORES RECOLECTORES DE HACE 8.200 AÑOS EN LOS MONEGROS

In this paper, we present the preliminary data obtained from the excavation of the open-air campsite of Paridera Ballarín Marcial “PBM”. The site is located in the municipality of Sariñena, in Huesca. The site was discovered by Carlos Callén and Javier Rey within the framework of the archaeological survey that took place in 1990 and had the aim of inventorying and studying the prehistoric sites of the Sierra de Alcubierre (Huesca). From 2021, an extensive archaeological excavation has been carried on, funded by the University of Pisa and led by Niccolò Mazzucco and Javier Rey. The fieldwork concluded in 2023, revealed a Mesolithic hut whose radiocarbon dating is placed between 8.400 and 7.900 cal BP. The limits of a dwell-ing structure leaning against a low-slope sandstone hillside were identified. Inside the hut, the presence of lithic remains marked the presence of a knapping area. Several areas with evidence of fire and combustion structures have been identified in its surroundings. The archaeological evidence is consistent with a small camp of hunter-gatherer-fishers, likely of short du-ration. The abundant lithic industry is characterized by the presence of triangles and trapezoids with abrupt retouching, which fits into the common features of the Geometric Mesolithic industries. This site stands out as the oldest in the Mone-gros region, representing a key element for understanding the Prehistory of this area.
