The hill of Çuka and Ajtoit, located in southern Albania at a short distance from the border with Greece, is renowned for its monumental fortifications dating back to the Hellenistic period. Recent field research has also drawn attention to other significant aspects of the site, notably its residential architecture. Previous excavations have been re-evaluated and contextualised on a site-wide scale, and in light of the most recent discoveries. This has provided a more detailed picture – albeit still provisional – of the dwellings at Çuka and Ajtoit. This small site of the Cestrine region is becoming therefore a privileged observation point for the study of residential architecture on a regional scale.

Abstract
The hill of Çuka and Ajtoit, located in southern Albania at a short distance from the border with Greece, is renowned for its monumental fortifications dating back to the Hellenistic period. Recent field research has also drawn attention to other significant aspects of the site, notably its residential architecture. Previous excavations have been re-evaluated and contextualised on a site-wide scale, and in light of the most recent discoveries. This has provided a more detailed picture – albeit still provisional – of the dwellings at Çuka and Ajtoit. This small site of the Cestrine region is becoming therefore a privileged observation point for the study of residential architecture on a regional scale.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
