Venice is one of Italy’s most influential towns in terms of collective imagination. In the early 80s, two music videos have allowed to get a glimpse of people’s perception of it: on the one hand, Madonna’s Like a Virgin (1984) shows the glamourous side of the Capital of the Republic, also through the use of a strong symbolism. On the other, in Siouxsie and the Banshees’ clip for Dear Prudence (1983) the lagoon city’s decadence peaks with dark takes in the calli and the display of empty spaces.
