The aim of this article is to read Emmanuel Levinas’ works as a political guide for Europe. It will be proved that the State can destroy the capability of being responsible in the Same, which is the condition of possibility of the political. For example, Europeans cannot host migrants because they think through the language of the State, which is xenophobic. Consequently, overcoming the State is necessary for the foundation of a real political community. It will also be shown the difference between war and hostility in Levinas’s thought: the Other is the only one I can hate, I cannot hate a mass, ergo the neutralization of the other through the ontology of totality, which is always produced by the war, implies a neutralization of hostility, which is a basic part of sociality.

Abstract
The aim of this article is to read Emmanuel Levinas’ works as a political guide for Europe. It will be proved that the State can destroy the capability of being responsible in the Same, which is the condition of possibility of the political. For example, Europeans cannot host migrants because they think through the language of the State, which is xenophobic. Consequently, overcoming the State is necessary for the foundation of a real political community. It will also be shown the difference between war and hostility in Levinas’s thought: the Other is the only one I can hate, I cannot hate a mass, ergo the neutralization of the other through the ontology of totality, which is always produced by the war, implies a neutralization of hostility, which is a basic part of sociality.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
