The article provides an overview of the use of the Greek language in the funerary inscriptions of non-native Greek speakers in 15th century Rome. Of the eight monuments recorded, six are still extant, while two – known to us only through manuscript tradition – appear to have been lost. In these monuments, Greek inscriptions may occurr alongside Latin ones or, alternatively, single Greek words may be incorporated into the Latin text. The inscriptions, given with dipolmatic and interpretative transcriptions as well as a translation, are also examined from a paleo-epigraphic, linguistic, litterary and art-historical perspective. Building on the analytical examination of the individual inscriptions, the study develops a broader reflection on the historical, cultural and social background of the usage of Greek in humanistic funerary epigraphy.

Abstract
Building on the analytical examination of the individual inscriptions, the study develops a broader reflection on the historical, cultural and social background of the usage of Greek in humanistic funerary epigraphy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
