The success of the Pratolino Park, designed by Francesco Buonalenti starting from 1568 for Francesco I de' Medici, comes mostly from its water tricks, grottoes and hydraulic automata. The Provincia di Firenze, owner from 1981, is interested now to improve the knowledge on the water network that was abandoned and forgot for a long time. The paper relates about the Fountain of Jupiter, at the top of the Park, where the water system branched off to the other sites. The survey, made with laser scanner techniques, helps to understand how artistic design and allegoric meaning joined technical issues and is a prerequisite for further studies and for a conservation plan.

Abstract
The success of the Pratolino Park, designed by Francesco Buonalenti starting from 1568 for Francesco I de' Medici, comes mostly from its water tricks, grottoes and hydraulic automata. The Provincia di Firenze, owner from 1981, is interested now to improve the knowledge on the water network that was abandoned and forgot for a long time. The paper relates about the Fountain of Jupiter, at the top of the Park, where the water system branched off to the other sites. The survey, made with laser scanner techniques, helps to understand how artistic design and allegoric meaning joined technical issues and is a prerequisite for further studies and for a conservation plan.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
