Des archives de Belgrade et Vienne: les querelles serbo-autrichienne pour la frontière de la Drina après la crise bosniaque (1908-1911)

This essay aims to illustrate a geographic and historical issue barely examinated by the western scholars, with a particular reference to the ones who work and worked on Eastern Europe history: the troubles and disputes about the natural border of the Drina river between the Kingdom of Serbia and the Empire of Austria-Hungary. This lack of interest is probably due to the preminence attributed to the strategic importance of the Danubian frontier, although the regulation of the western austro-serbian border had been carefully ruled not only by the article XXXVI of the Treaty of Berlin, but also by other austro-serbian mixted commissions after 1878. In this study is an attempt to enquiry not only a specific feature of the 1908 crisis consequences in the diplomatic relationships between Belgrade and Vienna, but also to deeply reexaminate the modus procedendi followed by the 1909 austro-serbian mixted commission in order to pacifically solve a dangerous border question, and to demonstrate that their talks and their gatherings were not influenced by the diplomatic tensions of that historical contingence.
