The first performance of the dramatic play "La Nave" by Gabriele d'Annunzio at the Teatro Argentina inRome on January 11th, 1908, was not only a mere literary event, but also a political one in all its respects. The consensus that the drama obtained was remarkable, and its substance and breadth can be grasped in the Italian press of the moment. Above all, it received a cordial approval from King Vittorio Emanuele III, and awakened, with a never experimented force, in the Italian citizens and political leaders genuine national irredentist feelings. It occurred, moreover, in a fateful year for Italian and European foreign policy. This essay attempts to analyse all these issues and hints at Austria-Hungary's reactions to the event by translating and commenting an important article written by the Austro-Bohemian publicist Leopold von Chlumecký , about the consequences of this first performance on the Austro-Italian international relations.

Abstract
This essay attempts to analyse all these issues and hints at Austria-Hungary's reactions to the event by translating and commenting an important article written by the Austro-Bohemian publicist Leopold von Chlumecký , about the consequences of this first performance on the Austro-Italian international relations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
