All over the world, patriarchal systems and broader socio-economic structures contribute to gender-based violence (GBV) and the normalisation of misogyny. This study addresses the determinants and effects of GBV within an Italian context. It views the rise of GBV asillustrative of the effects of patriarchal and rape culture ideologies and their dissemination through misogynistic and stereotypical narratives. Emphasising the urgency of addressing the root causes of GBV and misogyny, the study advocated for the implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) to promote healthier relationships and societal wellbeing. When delivered by welltrained teachers in schools, CSE can equip young people with the tools to navigate identities, relationships, and gender relations within a framework grounded in empathy, equity and non-violence . This paper presents findings from a recent action research study conducted in Italian high schools. During a ‘Secret Box’ activity conducted with students, some of the anonymous questions asked were related to GBV and associated factors. A feminist approach aligned with the commitments of the Donne de Borgata Association was used to analyse students’ questions using content analysis. Findings highlight the role of good-quality CSE in addressing relevant concerns and fostering wellbeing and social justice at both individual and collective levels.
