On the eve of the battle of Actium (31 B.C.), Antony and Octavian have established networks of loyalties in the province of Asia. This dual presence is at work in Mysia – in the northwest of the province – as evidenced by two events after the battle. First, Octavian rewards a local nobleman who switched sides before Actium. Then, gladiators in Cyzicus rebel and try to join Antony in Egypt. These two episodes can be linked, with Cyzicus as the meeting point. This city has a complex political situation between 30-20 B.C., which would be an expression of the struggle between the networks of friendship created by Antony and Octavian in Asia. In both cases, these actors use their agency – which in this case is the possibly of binding und unbinding with the most powerful romans, as the basis of their personal power and authority in Mysia.

Abstract
In both cases, these actors use their agency – which in this case is the possibly of binding und unbinding with the most powerful romans, as the basis of their personal power and authority in Mysia.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
