This article examines Origen’s use of the veil metaphor and its connections to theo- logical and philosophical views on femininity. In Origen’s theology, gender serves as an intellectual category – a means of expressing theological and philosophical doctrines – drawing on gendered metaphorical language from the Bible, classical literature, philosophical texts, and everyday objects. Building on prior research on Origen’s exegesis, this article demonstrates how analyzing his use of feminine meta- phorical language deepens our understanding of key theological themes in his work, including Christology, the evaluation of materiality, and theological anthropology.
