Postoperative swelling is a common complication following the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. Typically, swelling peaks within 48 h and resolves within a week. However, surgical factors, particularly incision design, can exacerbate this issue. This type of flap is indicated for all types of surgical third molar extractions. The advantages are as follows: minimal disruption of vascular and muscular structures, allowing for improved intraoperative bleeding control, safer tissue retraction, and enhanced visibility during surgical procedures; adequate exposure and protection for both buccal and, if necessary, lingual areas, along with reduced operative time and decreased postoperative swelling.

Abstract
Postoperative swelling is a common complication following the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. Typically, swelling peaks within 48 h and resolves within a week. However, surgical factors, particularly incision design, can exacerbate this issue. This type of flap is indicated for all types of surgical third molar extractions. The advantages are as follows: minimal disruption of vascular and muscular structures, allowing for improved intraoperative bleeding control, safer tissue retraction, and enhanced visibility during surgical procedures; adequate exposure and protection for both buccal and, if necessary, lingual areas, along with reduced operative time and decreased postoperative swelling.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
