Clari viri in urbe sepulti: memoria gentilizia e paesaggio urbano

This essay reects on the dicult theme of urban burial of eminent gures as an exception to the norm. The question arises from a well-known passage of the second book of Cicero’s De legibus; this topic is complex to assess, both from the legal and historical-religious point of view as from the archaeological and topographical one. Usually approached in an indeterminate way for chronology and context, the problem needs, on the contrary, a process of disambiguation to better dene which clari viri, and so which Urbs, funus, gentes, landscape and memory.
