This paper analyses Horace’s influence on the commentary on Petrarch’s Canzoniere and Tronfi written by Giovanni Andrea Gesualdo in Naples and published in Venice in 1533. Giovanni Andrea Gesualdo’s rich commentary appealed to multiple auctoritates, amongst whom Horace was the most cited Latin author. After a general discussion of Horace’s influence on the commentary, the paper presents a fine-grained analysis of selected citations, using these to elaborate a broader interpretative grid.

Abstract
This paper analyses Horace’s influence on the commentary on Petrarch’s Canzoniere and Tronfi written by Giovanni Andrea Gesualdo in Naples and published in Venice in 1533. Giovanni Andrea Gesualdo’s rich commentary appealed to multiple auctoritates, amongst whom Horace was the most cited Latin author. After a general discussion of Horace’s influence on the commentary, the paper presents a fine-grained analysis of selected citations, using these to elaborate a broader interpretative grid.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
