Archivi e storia della scienza. Dalla marginalità allo sviluppo

The archives linked to the world of scientific research have long been the subject of minimal attention from the historical and archival community. It is only relatively recently that activities aimed at safeguarding and enhancing these documentary heritages have begun. In addition to the cultural factors that have contributed to the lack of interest in these historical testimonies, there are also tendencies and inclinations within the disciplines themselves that should ensure their preservation. Nevertheless, this has not precluded the emergence of noteworthy initiatives, spearheaded by scientists themselves during the latter half of the 20th century, for the preservation of the memory of their mentors and colleagues.

Gli archivi legati al mondo della ricerca scientifica per lungo tempo hanno ricevuto scarsa attenzione da parte della comunità storica ed archivistica e solo in tempi relativamente recenti si è dato avvio ad attività rivolte alla salvaguardia e alla valorizzazione di questi patrimoni documentari. Alle cause culturali per il disinteresse verso queste testimonianze storiche si aggiungono le tendenze e le inclinazioni delle discipline che ne dovrebbero assicurare la tutela, ma questo non ha impedito nel corso della seconda metà del XX secolo l’affermarsi di esperienze virtuose promosse dagli scienziati stessi per la conservazione della memoria dei loro maestri e colleghi.
