Die Bedingungen von Pluralität in der Einbildungskraft. Zu Arendts politischer Lesart der kantischen ästhetischen Urteilskraft.

This paper aims to investigate the role played by imagination in Hannah Arendt’s conception of judging, starting from Kantian aesthetics, as the most political among mental activities. In particular, the research focuses on how imagina- tion articulates the relationship of mental life with the sphere of appearance, that is, with what in Arendt’s conception is the world of phenomena and the space of politics, made up of plural relations between human beings who perceive and think as much as they appear, act and speak. Imagination proves to be the primary function of Arendtian judging insofar as it puts us in contact with others and enables a common understanding of the world from concrete particulars, in the absence of established rules.
