Gotico di Puglia. A Lucera e Galatina due pezzi unici

This paper examines the development of Gothic architectural language in Apulia between the late 11th and the 13th centuries. While the Romanesque style dominated the construction of the region’s major cathedrals, the influence of Gothic forms appeared mainly in the churches of the mendicant orders—Franciscans, Dominicans, and Augustinians—founded from the mid-13th century onwards. These buildings introduced characteristic features such as ribbed vaults and pointed arches. Within this context, two monuments stand out for their distinctive formal qualities, separated both chronologically and geographically: the Cathedral of Lucera in the province of Foggia and the Basilica of Santa Caterina in Galatina, near Lecce.
