Sustainability and its application to the construction sector requires both the client and the designer to think holistically, considering not only economic aspects, but also environmental and social ones, while taking into account the entire life cycle of the building. In this regard, numerous types of multi-criteria analysis, and some examples of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), have recently been developed for civil engineering. However, it would not be sufficient to focus on newly designed buildings, it is essential to undertake actions on the existing building stock, the majoritys of which requires energy renovation and seismic upgrading. In this work, a multicriteria analysis based on the MIVES method is implemented to evaluate different strategies for the combined/integrated seismic and energetic intervention for a real public residential building in Palombara Sabina (Italy). For this purpose, the Simple Lateral Mechanism Analysis (SLaMA) a mechanical-based analytical procedure developed in the NZSEE20017 Seismic Assessment Guidelines, has been carried out to assess the vulnerability of the structure and obtain the Safety Index (demand-capacity ratio) and the Expected Annual Losses (EAL). At the same time, an energy audit allowed to assess the energy class of the building. Six alternatives rehabilitation strategies have then been considered, three for the energy refurbishment and other three for seismic upgrading. Following a multi-criteria approach, the values of a sustainability index were calculated for the combined interventions, taking into account social, economic, and environmental aspects. The proposed procedure could be significantly useful for the decision making process of different stakeholders, not only with regard to the specific case study building, but to archetypes representing the Italian public housing building stock.
