Sixty years ago, the Venice Chart was born with the sole objective of addressing the crisis of the restoration principles, previously codified in the light of the dramatic losses related to the Second World War, opening the eyes to new scenarios and problems still current. Considering present dangers linked to conflicts, climate change, and catastrophes, there is an urgent need to define targeted strategies to control, reduce or at least mitigate the cultural heritage risk of loss. The aim of this contribution is to present an application to exemplify the use of digital technologies for risk assessment, prevention and mitigation. Analyzing, in fact, buildings at the different scales, it was possible to evaluate their vulnerabilities which, combined with the analysis of the intrinsic hazards of the territory, will be used to determine the actual Northen Vesuvian heritage risk of loss and constitute, therefore, the starting point for the determination of guidelines for the preservation and conservation of such a heritage.
