The essay focuses on the relationships between Tre operai (1934) by Carlo Bernari and the fascist censorship by reconstructing the editorial case through a political and literary filter. The documentation preserved in the Central State Archive and the correspondence between Bernari and his intellectual network show how articulate and ambivalent the position of the fascist regime on the novel was. This article aims to highlight the most important effects of the censorship on Bernari’s writing activity by analysing the fascist institutions documents and sketching the literary context.
