We have investigated the X-ray beam effect on perovskite MAPbI3 and MAPb0.9Bi0.1I3 by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. We have found that MA+ molecules are destroyed by an X-ray beam in perovskite MAPbI3, leading to production of Pb4+ and/or Pb0. Unlike the case of MAPbI3, the XPS analysis revealed that Bi0/5+ species are induced by the X-ray beam in MAPb0.9Bi0.1I3 rather than Pb0/4+. The results suggest that the Pb and Bi mixed valence can be controlled by X-ray irradiation in the perovskite organometal halides.
