The purpose of the paper is to analyse an ambitious action taken by the European Commission, which through the adoption of the new Product Liability Directive is committed to ensuring consumer safety in the digital age. The proposal, which also covers artificial intelligence, is based on the need to balance the interests of consumers and producers. As technology evolves, indeed, the regulations are adapted to include digital products, broadening the definition of "product" and increasing the range of responsible parties. The directive reflects awareness of social and technological changes, anticipating the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. The idea aims to replace the dated Directive 85/374, innovatively addressing the complex legal and economic issues of products 2.0 and throughout this paper, thanks to the studies carried out by authoritative experts, we will try to go over in more detail the salient aspects of this project.
