In official statistics, stratified sampling designs are commonly used. A key step in planning stratified sampling design is the choice of the stratification variables. When continuous variables are available, they need to be divided into intervals to form the strata. These intervals can either be predefined or determined by the researcher. In the latter case, the R package SamplingStrata (Barcaroli et al., 2025) provides a valuable support. Using a sample of enterprises, we illustrate the benefits of applying the methods implemented in this package to optimize stratification.

Abstract
In official statistics, stratified sampling designs are commonly used. A key step in planning stratified sampling design is the choice of the stratification variables. When continuous variables are available, they need to be divided into intervals to form the strata. These intervals can either be predefined or determined by the researcher. In the latter case, the R package SamplingStrata (Barcaroli et al., 2025) provides a valuable support. Using a sample of enterprises, we illustrate the benefits of applying the methods implemented in this package to optimize stratification.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
