The increasing digitization of the AECO - Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations sector is transforming the design, construction and management processes of the built environment. In this context, integrating BIM - Building Information Modelling and GIS - Geographic Information Systems is key to promoting operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and innovative decision-making. Joint adoption of BIM and GIS provides an integrated view of the life cycle of buildings and infrastructure, improving urban planning, energy management, predictive maintenance and environmental monitoring. This study also explores the evolving role of advanced technologies, such as Geo-Digital Twins, the IoT - Internet of Things, AI - Artificial Intelligence and ML - Machine Learning, revealing their capacity to optimize interoperability and facilitate the development of smart cities. Adopting standardized protocols and integrated digital tools is essential to accelerating the transition towards a more sustainable and efficient built environment.
