La Cassaria in prosa: le ragioni di una «nova comedia» (e di una nuova edizione)

The article examines some preparatory aspects for a new critical and annotated edition of the Cassaria in prose. In particular, some proposals are made for corrections to the text established in previous critical editions; the relationship between truth and fiction in the text is discussed, also in the light of some observations contained in Giovan Battista Pigna’s Vita di Ariosto; finally, the rhetorical structure of the play and the use of a poetic prose are discussed.
