Ginestra Giovene Amaldi was not only a scientist, an astrophysicist to be precise, but also one of the first Italian science communicators. She was an author and host of radio programs and she edited and hosted programs for the newborn Italian television to spread knowledge of scientific subjects in an Italy that was still poorly educated and literate like that of the 1950s and 1960s. Ginestra Giovene was also the wife of one of the most important Italian physicists of the short century, Edoardo Amaldi, and with him she traveled to Europe, Asia and the Americas, offering a detailed account of these trips in her notebooks, in which she portrays environments and landscapes, ordinary people and important exponents of politics, culture and the scientific world of the post-war period, scientific and social encounters, in such a vivid and natural way as to catapult the reader into those same places and with those same people.
