The coalescence innovation framework: bridging social innovation and open innovation for urban regeneration

This paper investigates Social and Open Innovation as complementary approaches to addressing complex urban challenges. Social Innovation is explored as a multifaceted strategy to foster societal well-being, while Open Innovation is examined for its capacity to enhance collaboration and scalability through partnerships and knowledge sharing. As a synthesis, the Coalescence Innovation Framework is introduced as a preliminary model to integrate these approaches. Drawing inspiration from the physics concept of coalescence, this framework proposes a pathway for fostering incremental, sustainable solutions and virtuous ecosystems in urban regeneration, laying the groundwork for future exploration.
