“Germogli Taranto” project proposes an integrated urban regeneration initiative for the Isola Madre in Taranto, aiming to harmonise architecture, urban space, and landscape through a sustainable and inclusive approach. This vision acknowledges the historical and cultural layers embedded in the territory, positioning the architect as an interpreter of the landscape, capable of selecting and enhancing significant elements from the past to address contemporary needs. Focusing on the Città Vecchia, a historically rich area characterised by a complex urban fabric, the project seeks to revitalise this unique island situated between the Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo. Despite its cultural significance, the area has experienced abandonment and degradation, mirroring challenges faced by other historic centres in Italy. The proposal introduces social housing as a tool for the recovery and enhancement of the existing architectural heritage. A central aspect of the project is the redevelopment of public spaces, with a particular emphasis on mobility and accessibility. The plan includes the installation of mechanical ascent systems and selective demolition interventions to enhance the island’s connectivity. Thinning interventions will introduce new urban courtyards, providing additional collective spaces and improving natural ventilation and overall environmental comfort. The goal is to create a new urban landscape that fosters interaction between residents and their environment, restoring the Isola Madre’s identity and vitality. “Germogli Taranto” represents a model of intervention that, through the valorisation of existing heritage and social innovation, aims to build a community capable of meeting contemporary challenges without relinquishing the historical memory of the place. _____

Abstract
_____| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
