The Future of Memory: Transforming Urban Monuments into Living Archives Through Performative Art

The text examines contemporary artistic interventions, performative and temporary, that interact with historical monuments, relating histories associated with the monuments with alternative memories. These stories offer new perceptions, and ecologies rather than the official historical ones associated with the monumental area. Artistic interventions in the historic city center can catalyze contemporary environmental and social action and envision possible future scenarios. They refer to relevant events and crises of the present, experienced by and involving the contemporary user examined through two projects in Rome and Moscow: Tiberina by Andreco Studio and Black Square on the Red Square by Irwin group (NSK).
