La peste a Massaua e dintorni. Risposte e pratiche dell’amministrazione coloniale italiana di fronte all’emergenza sanitaria del 1913

This essay aims to investigate the orientation and measures undertaken by the Eritrean colonial administration, led by Governor Giuseppe Salvago Raggi, regarding the health emergency that occurred between May and June 1913. Through the analysis of the reports drawn up by health officials and the testimonies of witnesses, this work will reconstruct the dynamics that occurred between the top and the base, the practices of health workers, the population and traders and the challenges they had to face in reacting to the limitations imposed by the Government.

In questo saggio si intende indagare l’orientamento e le misure intraprese dall’amministrazione coloniale eritrea, guidata dal Governatore Giuseppe Salvago Raggi, in merito all’emergenza sanitaria che si verificò tra maggio e giugno del 1913. Attraverso l’analisi dei rapporti redatti dagli ufficiali sanitari e delle testimonianze dei testimoni, questo lavoro ricostruirà le dinamiche che si verificarono tra il vertice e la base, le pratiche dei sanitari, della popolazione e dei commercianti e le sfide che dovettero affrontare per reagire alle limitazioni imposte dal Governo.
