Ever since the Declaration of Independence from the British Crown, Americans have considered a connection with the libera res publica Romana and its institutions. Thus, the aim of this paper is to investigate whether and how the typical negative power of the tribune of the plebs, the intercessio, which contributed so much to shaping the libera res publica Romana, entered into the Constitution of the United States of America of 1787 and the debate that preceded its promulgation. In particular, the present paper aims to analyze whether the President’s veto, provided for in Section 7 of Article 1 of the US Constitution, has such features that intercessio tribunicia may have contributed to its provision.

Abstract
Ever since the Declaration of Independence from the British Crown, Americans have considered a connection with the libera res publica Romana and its institutions. Thus, the aim of this paper is to investigate whether and how the typical negative power of the tribune of the plebs, the intercessio, which contributed so much to shaping the libera res publica Romana, entered into the Constitution of the United States of America of 1787 and the debate that preceded its promulgation. In particular, the present paper aims to analyze whether the President’s veto, provided for in Section 7 of Article 1 of the US Constitution, has such features that intercessio tribunicia may have contributed to its provision.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
