The water discharge system in the central-southern sector of Pompei : The study of the water discharge system in Pompei, particularly the central and southern parts of the city, has shown the strong complementarity between the city plan and the regimentation of the wastewater. These aspects were strongly integrative and essential to the working of the city of Pompeii. For the first time in the diachrony of the urban development of Pompei, it seems possible to reconstruct a specific planning ability for the management of rainwater and wastewater. And this was already at the beginning of the archaic period. This water management adapts to and uses the natural morphological aspects of the place. It was modified in time, following the urbanistic evolution of the city until the last decades of the second century B.C. At that moment, with the occasion of a big construction renewal of the whole urban area, for the first time in Pompeii, underground sewer trunk lines were built. They were dedicated to the regimentation and evacuation outside the city walls of the rainwater and wastewater.
