This article provides an updated overview of Italian archaeological missions currently operating in Anatolia, highlighting their scientific significance, diplomatic value, and contributions to the preservation and enhancement of Turkey’s cultural heritage. Italian missions, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), play a crucial role in fostering long-term collaboration between Italy and Turkey through cultural diplomacy. The paper examines active and recently concluded projects, analyzing the challenges faced—such as legislative changes, administrative hurdles, and threats posed by industrial development—and the strategies adopted to continue research, conservation, and public engagement. Case studies include long-standing missions at sites such as Hierapolis, Arslantepe, Elaiussa Sebaste, Iasos, and Göreme. Emphasis is placed on the integration of multidisciplinary approaches, digital technologies, and local stakeholder involvement. Ultimately, the study underlines the enduring relevance of Italian archaeological research abroad as a tool for sustainable heritage management and intercultural dialogue.
