A certain idea of culture. A conversation with Peter Burke

Peter Burke has been professor at the University of Sussex (1962-1979) and at the University of Cambridge (1979-2004), where he is now Professor Emeritus of Cultural History, and a Fellow of Emmanuel College. In his numerous works, he has dealt with the cultural and social history of early modern Europe, but also with cultural history across its entire spectrum. His books have been translated into more than thirty languages. In this interview, he ranges through several topics, offering a vivid image of his intellectual journey: from popular culture to visual culture studies, and from the Renaissance to current cultural issues, such as the political use of ignorance.
