“Archeologia d’archivio”. Il caso-studio dei pozzetti rituali posti sul fronte della Basilica Giulia

This paper offers part of a broader work of PhD research entitled: “The southern sector of the Roman Forum: construction sites, production and consumption between the late republican age and the early imperial age”. Here is a part of the study made on the materials recovered during the excavations , lead by Giacomo Boni in 1901, of a numbers of pits, located along the front of the Basilica Giulia, and interpreted by their discoverer as wells ritually closed, to sanction the religious limit of the square. Here are exposed some of the methodological decisions made during the excavation, documentation, collection, and preservation of archaeological materials. In addition, few attempt were made to reconstruct the history of these findings and the how they were preserved in the post- II war years deposits up to the present day.
