This paper systematically reviews the evolution of scientific studies on mobile payments, providing a comprehensive analysis of 153 articles. Utilising the SPAR-4-SLR protocol, this study identifies key research trends, gaps, and future directions in mobile payment research. This review offers valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and practitioners by elucidating current payment behaviours, technological advancements, and regulatory impacts. The results underscore the growing importance of mobile payments in the digital economy and highlight areas for future research to advance the field. This systematic literature review aims to enhance the understanding of mobile payment systems and provide a solid foundation for future studies.
