The discovery of a Neolithic vase during the 43rd Archaeological Mission to Motya led by the University of Rome «La Sapienza» suggests it is necessary to reflect once again on the earliest periods of occupation of the island. The vase, in the ceramic style of the Diana culture, dates to the second half of the 5th millennium BC (Motya IA, 6000-3500 BC) and it represents the oldest ceramic find so far documented at Motya testifying to a prehistoric frequentation as early as the Late Neolithic period.

Abstract
The discovery of a Neolithic vase during the 43rd Archaeological Mission to Motya led by the University of Rome «La Sapienza» suggests it is necessary to reflect once again on the earliest periods of occupation of the island. The vase, in the ceramic style of the Diana culture, dates to the second half of the 5th millennium BC (Motya IA, 6000-3500 BC) and it represents the oldest ceramic find so far documented at Motya testifying to a prehistoric frequentation as early as the Late Neolithic period.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
