This work deals with geography and landscape in Plautus’ comedy. There are a great number of scenic conventions in ancient drama and this is also due to the absence of a real scenography in Greek and Roman wooden stages. The playwrights need to specify the places where they locate the action of the play and they do it through the so-called word-scenery. However, Plautus’ characters often also refer to cities and regions far from the main scene and even introduce allusions to Roman and Italic places and institutions.
