Quarticciolo is a historical borgata where the outcomes of the marginalization processes that have defined many of Italy’s urban peripheries are evident. Here, a network of self-organized realities inspired by the philosophy of starting from what is there, is very active. The same principle inspires the research and action that a neighborhood laboratory of La Sapienza University carries out in the area, interpreting the needs of the territory in order to contribute to the elaboration of effective public policies for integral local development. Starting from the ongoing process, this contribution proposes some considerations on the difficulties of imagining public policies and integrated interventions in contemporary peripheries, recalling that recognizing what is already there, supporting and enhancing it, serves to imagine what will be there, using the (institutional and non) tactics of hacking the present to project a shared future.
