The essay presents, introduces, and elaborates on an account by Massi- miliano Civica – theatre director and artistic director of the Teatro Metastasio in Prato since 2021 – based on a meeting held at the Sapienza University of Rome in late 2020. The contribution, organized and divided into thematic sections, oscillates between “thinking about the performance” from the per- spective of a director and actors’ guide, and “thinking about theatre” through artistic direction and cultural policies, understood as the project-based organization of cultural life within a specific territory, while simultaneously being connected to a national network. However, the discourse does not merely outline theoretical assumptions in an abstract manner; rather, it is filled with concrete examples, complete with names and surnames of colleagues, collaborators, and direct or chosen mentors. Although little space is dedicated to his own educational background, Civica pays particular attention to ped- agogical systems aimed at the development of theatre professionals, focusing in the second part of the testimony on the role of the director – not as an author who imposes their own scenic vision on the actors, but as a guardian of the theatrical relationship between stage and audience.

Abstract
Although little space is dedicated to his own educational background, Civica pays particular attention to ped- agogical systems aimed at the development of theatre professionals, focusing in the second part of the testimony on the role of the director – not as an author who imposes their own scenic vision on the actors, but as a guardian of the theatrical relationship between stage and audience.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
