Literary books for children have an educational purpose, and are therefore aimed at personal and social development. In Côte d'Ivoire and elsewhere in Africa, the resources they mobilise and transmit have, from the outset, been part of the debate between modernity and tradition or, better still, between exogenous and endogenous knowledge. It is part of the changes that colonisation brought to education and its transmission channels. Our aim is to show the extent to which endogenous and exogenous contributions to development resources are sometimes interwoven today, using the medium of children's books as a starting point, which in itself has been integrated into Ivorian culture at the same time as so-called modern culture. We begin by reviewing some of the theoretical underpinnings of the study of children's book illustrations and the parameters adopted by Ivorian languages for the classic terms of colour. We then carry out a specific study of colours in relation to the values conveyed in literary children's books, before analysing the dynamism of the relationship between endogenous and exogenous in literary children's books.
