In recent years, there has been a growing interest in innovative approaches to language teaching that promote authentic language use (Berardo 2006; Mc Grath 2013). One such approach is the integration of newspapers into the language classroom. This paper explores the benefits, and practical implementation, of teaching the Chinese language through newspapers. Newspapers provide a rich source of authentic language materials that reflect current events, culture, and social issues. Integrating newspapers into the language lessons not only exposes learners to real-world language, but also enhances their reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. This approach helps learners to engage with authentic texts representing various genres, including news articles, opinion pieces, editorials, and interviews. In my paper, I would like to first share some considerations about reading newspapers in Chinese language classroom and introduce some key concepts, and then to present a Chinese newspaper textbook giving some practical examples of this teaching. The textbooks should guide instructors in selecting and using appropriate articles, facilitating exercises and discussions, and promoting critical thinking.
