Migrazioni ebraiche a Genova e regione tra medioevo ed età moderna

This paper investigates Jewish migration in Genoa and the surrounding region from the medieval period to the early modern age. It explores the shifting dynamics of this ancient presence, highlighting its signif- icance in the city’s economic and cultural landscape. The research examines the evolving policies towards Jews, first by the municipality and later by the republic, focusing on the transition from sporadic pres- ence in the early medieval period to the management of the Sephardic diaspora, and culminating in the opening towards the Jews decreed with the 1654 portofranco, which allowed for the establishment of a stable Jewish community in Genoa.
