The study examines the cult of St. Michael along the Via Salaria (5th-8th century), focusing on the sanctuaries at the 7th mile, Monte Tancia, and Rieti. These sites, integrated into a cultic itinerary, highlight the role of the Salaria as a pilgrimage route and as a remnant of the Roman road network. The sanctuary at the 7th mile, the oldest in Italy dedicated to St. Michael, is analyzed through the Liber Pontificalis. Monte Tancia reflects Lombard influence, while St. Michael in Rieti is connected to the Farfa network. The study underscores the sanctuaries’ importance as cultural and spiritual centers along this key route.
