The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Euro and the thirtieth anniversary of the eastward enlargement of the EU: a reflectionOver the decades, two crucial events have profoundly marked the history of the European Union: the introduction of the Euro in 1999 and the eastward enlargement that began in 1995. Today, twenty-five years after the introduction of the single currency and thirty years after the start of enlargement, it is useful to examine how these events have shaped modern Europe, analysing their successes and challenges through a critical and comparative lens. These events not only marked the history of the European Union, but also had a profound impact on geopolitics, economics and international relations. This special issue aims to explore and compare these events, analysing successes, challenges and long-term implications, based on up-to-date data and on a critical review of academic literature, from an interdisciplinary perspective
