The article analyzes, from a sociological perspective, the procedures through which a case submitted by a national judge becomes one capable of having consequences and validity throughout the entire European Union. It highlights the roles of the actors involved in the preliminary ruling procedure (the European judge, the national judge, the Advocate General of the EU Court, the parties in the national proceedings, the Member State from which the case originates, and the Member States that decide to intervene in the proceedings) and their functions.
